Service one: What is it? There is also a cared for the cared-for person to carry, if appropriate. How does to work? The Carers’ Emergency Alert Card shows the telephone number of the countrywide lifeline service, a 24-hour helpline. Lifeline holds the details of everyone with a Carers’ emergency Alert Card and the names of the people you have nominated to help. In a personal emergency, anyone who finds your card can call the lifeline number, and the lifeline will in turn call your nominated contacts. If your nominated contacts cannot be contacted, Lifeline will contact the Social Care Access Centre, who will arrange substitute care (if necessary). |

Is the Carers’ Back Me Up Service available to me? To the access this service you will need to be providing ‘regular and substantial’ support to the person you care for, and he/she must be identified as having a safety, physical or emotional care need(s), for which support is required. You will also be entitled to complete Carer’s Assessment, where you will have the opportunity to complete a contingency plan. This will enable you to discuss what you would need to be arranged should a personal emergency occur. Your contingency plan is held electronically by Social Care Services.
