Service two:

A range of practical support available to eligible carers, who are assessed by Worcestershire County Council as providing substantial level of their care to their cared-for person

Service one:
Carers’ Emergency Alert Card
Available Free to call carers

What is it?
The carers’ Emergency Alert Card is a credit-sized card that will identify you as a carer. It will easily fit into a purse or wallet, so you can carry it with you at all times.

There is also a cared for the cared-for person to carry, if appropriate.

How does to work?
When you apply for the card you will be asked to nominate one or two contacts. For example, family, friends or neighbours who are willing to check on the person you look after, in a personal emergency.

The Carers’ Emergency Alert Card shows the telephone number of the countrywide lifeline service, a 24-hour helpline. Lifeline holds the details of everyone with a Carers’ emergency Alert Card and the names of the people you have nominated to help.

In a personal emergency, anyone who finds your card can call the lifeline number, and the lifeline will in turn call your nominated contacts. If your nominated contacts cannot be contacted, Lifeline will contact the Social Care Access Centre, who will arrange substitute care (if necessary).

Is the Carers’ Back Me Up Service available to me?

To the access this service you will need to be providing ‘regular and substantial’  support to the person you care for, and he/she must be identified as having a safety, physical or emotional care need(s), for which support is required.

You will also be entitled to complete Carer’s Assessment, where you will have the opportunity to complete a contingency plan. This will enable you to discuss what you would need to be arranged should a personal emergency occur. Your contingency plan is held electronically by Social Care Services.
