The decline in
Respite Care in Worcestershire has been apparent to the clients,
their families and sometimes to the residential homes that they live
in for quite some time.
Whoever or
whatever we are, we all need a break from our normal routines to
‘recharge’ our batteries and to take on new challenges and try new
experiences, developing new ideas. For people with learning
disabilities and difficulties in Worcestershire and the surrounding
areas the homes providing such respite care have clearly declined
over the last few years, so much so that when the only remaining
home offering this type of care in Worcester – located at Howard
Road and run by Mencap, closed down earlier this year, it meant that
the closest respite in this area was in Stourport.
Rely Care Agency
Limited realised that there was an opening to continue with this
care and began looking into the possibility of opening a home. As
luck had it, Howard Road came on the market – however it was due to
be sold at Auction in May 2010. Mrs Sarah-Louise Tongue, Managing
Director of Rely Care, set about looking into the possibility of
purchasing the house before the Auction date.
The rest, so they
say is history in a manner of words and Rely Care purchased the home
successfully, since then and throughout the last three months
extensive refurbishment and redevelopment has taken place at the
house and was finally registered with Care
Quality Commission early Oct 2010. We will be offering all
of the people who come for respite care at the renamed Constable
House individual care packages that are person centred with a wealth
of activities that they are able to attend during their stay with
us.
